Belfast out to the Causeway, a day at a time.
Which coach day actually stops at the Dark Hedges. Whether a black cab tour beats walking the peace line. What the Titanic ticket gets you. Every tour in Northern Ireland, reviewed.
What people come to Northern Ireland for.
The coast road, the cab tours, the filming locations, the murals, the slipway where the ship was built, and the walled city up in the north west. Six kinds of day, and the best way to book each one.
The Causeway Coast: pick the run that suits you.
All Causeway Coast tours →
Sixty miles of it, from Carrickfergus round to Dunluce, with the stones at the end. These three carry the most travellers; the full list splits the rest by how long you want to be on the road.

Carrickfergus, the Dark Hedges, the rope bridge, the stones
Castle first, then the beech tunnel while the light is still low, the crossing at Carrick-a-Rede if the wind allows, and the Causeway itself with an hour to get down to the water.
A day in Northern Ireland, by what you pay for it.
Every priced tour on the site, split three ways. The cheapest end is not the lesser end here: some of the best hours in Belfast cost less than lunch.
Cab tours, city walks, gaol and distillery tickets, and most of the coach runs up the coast.
Full days out: the long coast sweeps, the filming-location trips, food walks with the drinks in.

Belfast is a small city that takes a while to explain.
Two hours with a driver who grew up on one side of the wall covers more ground than a day of reading. Then the shipyard, the Cathedral Quarter, and a gable wall being repainted while you watch.
Derry gives you a mile of wall and a very long story.
The only completely walled city left on the island, and the guides who take you round it mostly lived through what they are describing. Bogside below, the Guildhall clock above, the Peace Bridge over to the Waterside.
All 25 Derry day trips →Three things you can only really do in the North.
Coast roads and old towns you can find anywhere. A cab tour of a living peace line, a television landscape you can walk into, and the slipway the Titanic actually left from belong to this place.

The Cab Tour
Black cabs ran the Falls and the Shankill when the buses stopped, and the drivers who kept them going now do the explaining. You get the murals, the peace gates that still shut at night, and one person’s account of thirty years, told plainly. Most run an hour or two and take a whole car, so a family pays once.

The Filming Landscape
Almost everything shot outdoors was shot within two hours of Belfast: Ballintoy harbour as Pyke, Murlough Bay on the Iron Islands, Tollymore as the haunted forest, and the beech avenue at Gracehill as the Kingsroad. The studio at Banbridge holds the sets and the costumes, and it is a ticket in its own right.

The Slipway
The ship was designed, riveted and launched on this stretch of the Lagan, and the yard left the evidence: the drawing offices, the pump house, the two slipways marked out at full size so you can walk the length of the hull. The Harland & Wolff cranes still stand over the whole quarter.

Most of the North can be sorted from the hotel the night before. These cannot: they run on timed slots and small groups, and the good times are taken weeks out.
- 01Game of Thrones Studio Tour Admission TicketAdmission at Banbridge is by timed slot, and the ones that fit a Causeway day go first.
- 02Titanic Belfast Entrance Ticket: Titanic Visitor Experience Including SS NomadicEntry is timed. In summer the late-morning slots are gone before the week starts.
- 03Giants Causeway, Rope Bridge, Carrickfergus Castle and Dark Hedges TourThe Carrick-a-Rede crossing is capacity-limited and ticketed by time; a walk-up in July is a gamble.
- 04McConnell’s Distillery Experience with TastingTasting rooms take a dozen people at a time, so weekend slots close early.
It rains here. Plan the day around that, not despite it.
The forecast is rarely wrong for long, and almost nothing gets cancelled. A cab tour keeps you dry through the whole story. Titanic Belfast, the gaol and the distilleries are all indoors, and the coast looks better under a broken sky anyway.
